Guess what, another mass shooting in the US.

No, not the one with the kids, that was yesterday, come on keep up eh.

When will the US make the leap of logic, and just write a fucking new amendment (they can eh, it's THEIR constitution after all) and just edit the fucking 2nd to reflect 2022, because it sure as fuck wasn't 2022 when they wrote it.

No ARs, no military rifles, hey no fucking guns at all without a LOT more hassle.
Get rid of the obsession with carrying an assault rifle in Walmart.

It's not impossible. I know. I'm Canadian.

Unfortunately, I don't see meaningful gun reform happening anytime soon. Not when corporate lobbying is legal (f*** Citizens United) and the Supreme Court is now allowing states to use unlawfully gerrymandered congressional maps for the upcoming mid-term elections, and is in the process of overturning Roe v. Wade (which is just the tip of the Christo-fascist iceberg). Moreover, the Federal Election Commission asserts that foreign nations can fund ballot measures, and if Russia (and by extension, the NRA, which it largely funds) taught us anything, it's that these hostile benefactors want the absolute worst for the country and have the resources to make it happen. What worries me is that Republican politicians are outright treasonous (something I mentioned here before the literal coup), but they're one power grab away from setting us back centuries—and because the Supreme Court is allowing the Voting Rights Act to be violated—they're on their way of getting it illegitimately. The mass shootings are terrible, to say the least, but I think they're a byproduct of a systemic problem (and money is arguably the root of most of it).

Christo-fascists, such an appropriate name for these extremists. My country, Ireland, essentially ruled by Christo-fascists right from independence. They've been seen off here but it looks like the USA is heading that way.

I agree with your description of Republicans are essentially treasonous. For a country like the USA which espouses freedom as a core value to basically begin to dismantle freedoms based on religious dogma is hard to believe.

Maybe they should actually read their constitution instead trying to destroy it.

We live in an increasingly dangerous and dark world.

Precisely. They're a threat to democracy, human rights, the environment, etc. There's no longer separation of Church and State here and that's downright calamitous. But I digress, Roe v. Wade is officially overturned and they're targeting Griswold (contraceptives), Lawrence (reinforcing sodomy laws), and Obergefell (same-sex marriage) next. This is a dark day in my country's history, to say the absolute least, but I hope that we as a nation can turn it around. Somehow. Things are going to get worse before they get better, though. There desperately needs to be a paradigm shift away from fascism. Not just here, but on a global scale.

Also, I think it's rather telling that the Roe v. Wade ruling has guards, snipers, miles of fencing, but during the full-blown insurrection on January 6th, the security response was minimal.

I'm reluctant to say it but perhaps modern Americans need to understand that freedom is hard earned.

My Father, something of a socialist albeit conservative with it. When I argued with him one day about my 'rights'. He pointed out I had no rights other than those other people allowed me to have. I rejected that notion as most people do but in reality we have no 'inalienable' rights. Despite the US constitution.

The worst thing about all those people manning the barricades and those often in their own minds gentle people who think overturning roe v wade is a a good thing can't know they are destroying the very liberty they live by.

The US civil war wasn't just about slavery. Is it necessary to fight it again?

I have learned too harsh truths in my life.

Everything and I mean EEEEverything, only has the value we give it.
A home, a friend, a life, a possession, a principle.

You only know your real self, when you have lost everything other than your life.
Only then do you discover what you will do for anything.

Freedom is just a word. Rights are just an idea.
When I hear the word 'patriot' it means nothing to me.
Most heroes are dead ones.

Canada is a place I helped make. I wore a uniform to protect it to a point. But it was actually just a job to me. My votes meant more than my military service. Because I was supporting an opinion.

But the land I live on is just rocks, dirt, water, and vegetation.
I won't fight for rocks, dirt, water, and vegetation.

At the end of the day, there's me, my life, and my teddy bear.
I'll risk my life to save my teddy bear.
Everything else is negotiable.
