This was a tough one to find:
16 June 1963, 09:29:52 UTC: Cosmonaut Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova (Валенти́на Влади́мировна Терешко́ва) was launched aboard Vostok 6 from Gagarin’s Start, Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. The spacecraft was a Vostok 3KA and the launch vehicle was a Vostok 8K72K rocket. She was the first human female in space.

The Korolev Design Bureau Vostok 8K72K launch vehicle was a three-stage liquid-fueled rocket developed from the Soviet R-7 “Semyorka” intercontinental ballistic missile, using RP-1, a highly refined form of kerosene, and liquid oxygen as propellant. It was 38.36 meters (125 feet, 10 inches) tall and had a maximum diameter of 10.3 meters (33 feet, 9 inches). Total mass at liftoff was 287,375 kilograms (633,553 pounds).
The first stage consisted of four boosters surrounding a central core. Each was powered by one Glushko Design Bureau RD-108 (8D75) engine with four combustion chambers and exhaust nozzles. The RD-108 was rated at 713.600 kilonewtons of thrust (160,424 pounds-force) at Sea Level. Burn time was 118 seconds. The second stage used one RD-108 engine fired for 301 seconds. The third stage had one Kosberg Design Bureau RD-0109 engine rated at 54.520 kilonewtons (12,257 pounds-force) of thrust, with a burn time of 365 seconds.

Yes, but the object on the ground is the capsule that Cosmonaut Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova landed in.

Brain cells fading, will try tomorrow.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a German World War II fighter aircraft that was the backbone of the Luftwaffe's fighter force. The Bf 109 first saw operational service in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War and was still in service at the dawn of the jet age at the end of World War II in 1945. It was one of the most advanced fighters of the era, including such features as all-metal monocoque construction, a closed canopy, and retractable landing gear. It was powered by a liquid-cooled, inverted-V12 aero engine. From the end of 1941, the Bf 109 was steadily being supplemented by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. It was commonly called the Me 109, most often by Allied aircrew and even among the German aces themselves, even though this was not the official German designation.

Willis Tower

The Willis Tower, built as and still commonly referred to as the Sears Tower, is a 110-story, 1,450-foot skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. At completion in 1973, it surpassed the World Trade Center in New York to become the tallest building in the world, a title it held for nearly 25 years; it remained the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere until the completion of a new building at the rebuilt World Trade Center site in 2014. The building is considered a seminal achievement for architect Fazlur Rahman Khan. The Willis Tower is currently the second-tallest building in the United States and the Western hemisphere – and the 16th-tallest in the world. More than one million people visit its observation deck each year, making it one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations. The structure was renamed in 2009 by the Willis Group as a term of its lease.

So, this is very much an Anglo thingy..... clue! : It's a cricket umpire!!!! What has it do do with 111? (This one was a very nice man, the late David Shepherd. Why is he doing a silly jig in the middle of a very serious match????).

Being a Yank, I have no clue about cricket much as many have no clue about baseball. The only reference I could find about cricket and 111 is the following:
Nelson is a piece of cricket slang terminology and superstition.
The name, applied to team or individual scores of 111 or multiples thereof (known as double nelson, triple nelson, etc.) is thought to refer to a wicket. Longtime cricket historian and scorer, Bill "Bearders" Frindall once referred to it online as "one eye, one arm, and one etcetera", implying that Nelson's alleged third lost body part was "something else", however, this is equally mythical. In the 1939 film of Goodbye, Mr. Chips a schoolboy refers to Nelson in these terms: "One arm, one eye, one destiny". Umpire David Shepherd during a radio interview to mark his retirement explained it as "One arm, one eye and one lump of sugar in his tea."

Yes again it is a big well done to Miki! The 111 is called the Nelson and is very unlucky apparently, so to ward off the heebie jeebees some cricketers always have one foot off the ground constantly until a another run is scored, usually not long, but it can be sometimes ten minutes or more, so after a while it ends up like a little dance! David Shepherd did it and David Gower has done it in the commentators studio!!!!! It's kinda tradition!!!

Oh 112 must be done.... I'm thinking so hold on a mo!!!..... no! I have to look! Back soon!!!

Ok!!! Think WWII.... before Pearl Harbour, (pre-41), and all and Britain stands alone, France has capitulated and Britain needs all it can get!!! Including skilled men!!! And the answer is about many in the group of very brave men that volunteered when they did not have to, Americans and Poles joining Canadians and Anzacs in Britain at that time!!!

Celia - this was an effing tough one. I finally had to search on 'squadron patches with swift motto'.
Let's Count With Pictures!!! - Page 15 0-emblem-RAF-112Sqn-0A
No. 112 Squadron was a squadron of the Royal Air Force. It served in both the First World War and Second World War and was active for three periods during the Cold War. It is nicknamed "The Shark Squadron", an allusion to the fact that it was the first unit from any Allied air force to use the famous "shark mouth" logo on Curtiss P-40s.
Also, I initially started to look for British fighters and while it resembled a Spitfire the air intake threw me. I wouldn't have looked for a Curtiss P-40 until I found it was the plane the squadron flew during the first part of WWII.

USS John Finn (DDG-113) is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. The contract to build her was awarded to Ingalls Shipbuilding of Pascagoula, Mississippi, on 15 June 2011. Ingalls has been a subsidiary of Huntington Ingalls Industries since its acquisition in April 2001. Prior to the award, Ingalls had constructed 28 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, the last one of which was USS William P. Lawrence. On 15 February 2011, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced the ship's name to be John Finn after John William Finn...
This is a ship built around a complete weapons system - the Aegis Combat System and AN/SPY-1 missile systems.

The first ship I served on was a Destroyer Escort that saw service in the Pacific Theater in WWII and also during the Korean Conflict. These boats were aptly named 'Tin Cans' as they had very little armor.

Back in the early '70s, I went from motocross racing to sailboat racing. One race day my crewman didn't show up and luckily for me a student at Stanford 'B' School was hanging out around the clubhouse and offered to crew for me - we didn't finish last.

He was the grandson of Arleigh Burke.

I think you tossed a red herring into the mix when you gave me the year 1919, which is the year Boston traded Ruth to the Yankees.

1933 is the year Ruth was walked (base on balls) 114 times.

Barry Bonds currently holds the record for bases on balls at 232 in 2004.

BTW, I never saw Babe Ruth play as he died two years after I was born, but I did see Mays, McCovey, Clemente play. Regardless of whether Bonds 'enhanced' his playing ability - he was the best player I ever saw play the game.
