Sigh! Will it ever end!
To understand the J.K. Rowling controversy, you need to understand how transphobic discourse has become so mainstream in the U.K.
...
Author J.K. Rowling is in hot water with many fans. On Thursday, the Harry Potter creator tweeted her solidarity with Maya Forstater, a British woman who was let go from a think tank position for anti-trans statements and earlier this week lost a lawsuit against her former employer. Many Americans seem to feel shocked and betrayed by Rowling, who had become a political icon of sorts because of her liberal stances. But in truth, Rowling’s apparent support for anti-trans positions is in line with that of many U.K. liberals, an indication of how mainstream anti-trans attitudes in the U.K. have become. The situation here in the U.K. has grown so toxic, in fact, that in 2017 New Zealand provided residency on exceptional humanitarian grounds to a trans woman from the U.K. on the basis of the persecution she faced for her gender identity.

Hi Miki,

I was aware of the Rowling tweet. Many of the usual suspects jumped on board to agree with her, Sharon Davies and other terf celebrities et al and a band of trans-exclusionary cis men.

Whilst I have no problem as to how others live their lives, I do find such antagonism of those that somehow feel threatened by us, quite tiresome. I do not believe, as some of us do, in aggressive response, we need to be above that, I know that you agree with me Miki.

There are fine lines in UK politics,  many complicated parts of Liberal and left. For the left here also has quite a militant faction that not only is the refuge of TERFS, but anti-semitic National Socialists too. Others are republican, (quite a different meaning here, it equates as: anti-Monarchy), yet others are old style Soviets.

Thankfully, the majority of those with left wing belief are not so radical. However, the Labour and to some degree, the Liberal party, have large far left factions at the helm at the moment and to appeal to those, such characters as Rowling and Davies must truly believe they have free rein to vent their phobias, insulting whoever they wish, with a strong realisation of exculpation.

Somehow I believe they are very careful with whom they place their nasty, bigoted views. They will not be prosecuted, Transgender people DO NOT have strong lawful protection and are the last target of such bigots as these to freely abuse, knowing there will be no day in court. Were they venting their nastiness towards gay folk, they most certainly would find themselves before a Judge..

Most of you here have seen me write LBG....T. Most LGB are mid to far-left in their political views, but more often than not they conveniently leave the Ts to fend for ourselves.

I guess that it gets down to a basic selfishness that we are all guilty of but more so for the far anything. The far-right thinks eveyone is out to take whatever gains they were born to and the far-left wants to hold onto any gains they have made on their own - to the exclusion of those who weren't there in the beginning.

As I age my tolerance of things I cannot change has increased and my intolerance of anything that cheapens my experience as a human has also increased.

I am left as a spectator to something that however loud I yell my voice at is lost in the ever present crowd noise of 'I got mine, go away'.

I tend to limit my response to the JKs of the world with an enthusiastic "fuck off vagina".

They are not worth the press with give them in replying.

I'm happy to tell JK I prefer reading quality science fantasy like Lord of the Rings and Sword of Shannara. I have no desire to read her childish junk.

It's true some authors express often times unpopular views.
Terry Goodkind has written one of the best written fantasy epics. But he's also a fan of Ayn Rand.
Oh well, so is the super rock group Rush.
Spend a day talking to me and I can assure you, everyone can piss off someone.

The only difference between me and JK in many ways, is no one knows me (and I'm not a fucking TERF).

'Sophomore' translates to 'wise fool'.

I think Ayn Rand, especially Atlas Shrugged, should be read by students in their sophomore year in high school. After their little minds have been molded into mush: follow up with George Orwell's Animal Farm and 1984 in their high school junior year. Hopefully, the smarter ones will learn something and those who don't will remain sophomores the rest of their lives.

I doubt Animal Farm is available in British schools anymore, such appears to be the leftist bent in the education system here. We were given it to read in the early seventies. We also had lessons that included anti-Soviet and anti Nazi views in history that were also absolutely correct to teach as a warning to young minds.

At my CofE school we had Bible Class and were expected to attend Sunday school too. All of this in education today has long gone. It is such a shame. For it is what made, (and who we are), in the Western Anglo-World, whatever you may believe, today.

Interesting or I should say disturbing the Right is behind as lot of the anti trans movement. At least in US the TERF movement is a fringe movement of feminism.

And of course Meghan Murphy was booted off of Twitter.
