Stuff Is Happening
Hello All,
It has been a while since I've posted anything. I haven't had much change since before this forum...
But anyway, my main point - I have an appintment with the Gender Clinic in 2 weeks! My first appointment with them is on the 21st of this month
So, finally, things can start happening

Re: Stuff Is Happening
Zedarius - this is good news.
The following assumes that you can very early on determine a high level of confidence in your clinician.
My only advice is to 'spill the beans'. Do not hold back any information. Cleanse your soul. The rest of your life depends on how you communicate who you are to the person sitting across the table/room from you.
GOOD LUCK

If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. Let him forget there is such a thing as war. If the Government is inefficient, top-heavy, and tax-mad, better it is all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag.

Hi Zed, I am very happy for you. From your post, I am sure you are quite confident anyway, and so you should be!! You'll be fine!
Nice to hear from you! Let us know how you get on. Celia xx

Re: Stuff Is Happening
Its this coming Tuesday
I'm excited, and terrified...
But apparently I've got the person you want to have (from what I've heard the other is very Gate Keeper-ish... and likes to stick to the 1980's generalisation of "only trans if this, and only this!")

Re: Stuff Is Happening
I haven't heard of having to take a "gender test" as being a thing in Australia...
Just that if you don't give that certain Dr the answers he thinks you should (such as MTF are only to be attracted to men, want every surgery, and all )... he'll turn people away/deny them HRT... the GC is getting rid of those kinds of Dr's, but there is still one in the clinic... (not who I'll be seeing, thankfully)
They do want a biography thing from me, just explaining how gender, and gender dyphoria effects my life (and ability to live a "normal" life...)
The "how much woman I am" thing... isn't a thing they do anyway...
Also I'm FTM, so...

Re: Stuff Is Happening
Lesley's advice for anyone anywhere concerning GRS.
Ask lots of questions of THEM, give them whatever bullshit responses you figure they want to hear, and in the end, you can always tell society the truth AFTER you get the surgery you require to be happy.
It's not always easy to discern the professionals to avoid, so a rule of thumb is suspect ALL of them.
Let THEM prove themselves to YOU.

Re: Stuff Is Happening
I am sorry Lesley but, except for the first phrase in you sentence, you have just given the bullshit of the year advice. Yes, you should always ask questions, a lot if necessary. But, to offer up a line of bullshit responses simply to get what you think you need is both unethical and may hide a reason for not being a good candidate for any procedure, including GCS.Lesley Niyori wrote:Ask lots of questions of THEM, give them whatever bullshit responses you figure they want to hear, and in the end, you can always tell society the truth AFTER you get the surgery you require to be happy.
Just because you have had a bad experience somewhere along your path does not give you permission to stink up the helpful answers already put forward in this thread.

Well, that's a bit harsh, but, you might have a point just as easily.

Re: Stuff Is Happening
Hi Everyone!
I am certain that Zed was not looking for advice here anyhoo, (though I quite understand why we want to jump in like hens, when he says he is terrified!). We are all with you Zed.... that's clear. The terrified bit is part of the excitement at finally getting to see someone, don't worry!
So, I am 57 and well old enough to contradict myself without recourse. Call it silly old woman stuff. Tell the truth, read Miki's original post, and then there is no reason to be 'terrified', be yourself, yes, be yourself and don't start concocting tales, (even policemen can see through tales), you'll sail through.
Just four days, be excited and happy. And girls, let's support Zed to the hilt!

There are several tests on the internets claiming to give you a reference point as to your gender. A popular on "The Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory (COGIATI Test)" is a multi-guess test that only measures how much you want to be of a specific gender - if you have ever taken a test, you will know how to guide your answers for this one.
None of these tests are accurate in any scientific or clinical sense. Remember you are seeking help; advice from the person you will be sitting across from. Do not try to coax a particular answer from him or her. If you think the conversation is heading in a direction contrary to what you believe it should be heading - stop, ask why the clinician is heading off in that direction. Maybe the clinician is misinterpreting what you are saying, maybe the clinician has a bias.
Stay involved in the conversation. You may learn something about yourself you were not aware, maybe a past memory will surface (as in my case) that will cause you to reflect upon something you were not aware of, but will turn out to be wildly important.
In any case - GOOD LUCK!

Re: Stuff Is Happening
Thank you all
But, yeah. I'm more than ready to ask 10 000 questions, and get onto the Dr if they start going somewhere for a reason I'm not aware/sure of.
Also - hopefully I'll have a new therapist by today's end - I had a therapist previously who wasn't doing much for me...
I'm going to be seeing a new one today - she frequently has trans patients, and is very knowledgable about trans issues (she is the specialist for gender issues). So hopefully it works out...
But, anyway, ecxited for Tuesday to come - 5 days!!
