Re: A thread about music, not specific music, just about music
This great showgirl, wife of a true great sung this song. It reached number one exactly 53 years ago today!!!! Men like boots.....lots and lots, they are a big weapon in my seemingly neverendng war of capturing my, hopefully, last, good, honest, decent, loving one!!!! Anyway this tune musta driven men wild back in the day!!!! Well, the song is quite dated, but it's still good! *Note how she keeps her arms at her side to hide her non-hourglass!!!!

A great song, performed by one of my favourite singers.... a song of rejection and very, very old too!
Re: A thread about music, not specific music, just about music

Sorry, I know many don't like her.... but I always have admired her music.
Bed now, must sleepy peepy! Goodnight!!

I listen to a number of different genre... depends on my mood and if I dare to wallow about in it. Of late my playlist is Foo Fighters, Ott, Garbage, Alice in Chains, Carbon Based Lifeforms... I'll listen to almost anything except rap, country and religious.
I should find my Mystic Moods Orchestra recordings .... I guess classical and opera are NOT in my regular rotation. Oh I should dig up my Isao Tomita stuff too. Fun for tomorrow.

I'd have loved her to be one of my friends......… I'd have got her on the straight and narrow....
Re: A thread about music, not specific music, just about music
So here is a country song that I know Lesley loves, coz she soooo loves Country!!!! Only kidding!!!! So, I remember putting this on the old boards, it's a personal favourite, I guess I was probably about 5 when it was recorded, but you know what, for all my husseyness, I'm an old fashioned biddy.
Re: A thread about music, not specific music, just about music
Hi Everyone!!!!
I bet not many of you remember this.... maybe Miki does from 1971, I am, of course!!!!!, way too young to have been adult at the time, but in the late seventies when punk and other crimes against music were around and my awful Chris.... I retroed into the hippy era and had lots of her albums, this one was and still is a favourite song, it is simple and so, so beautiful.

My music is stuck in the '60s and '70s and I loved everything Melanie did. I still can't find my skate key, though.

LOL. My problem has been a surplus, unwanted key. Just sayin'.

Re: A thread about music, not specific music, just about music
Hi Tara, missed this somehow, I loved Brand New Key when it came out, I was already a Melanie fan. A bit of a hippy I guess and I still am....
I liked this guy too and had all his albums, left them and lots of others at Chris's when I ran away back in the mid-eighties.... I played it twice tonight coz it's so good!
And another that he rightly says is traditional. He got much maligned for that originally, but since then lots think he was right, after all he knew the songs of the Appalachians. It has been said that the credited 'writer/composer' Roberts, copied Hey Joe from a song by his girlfriend and she admitted she'd simply put lyrics to it from Little Sadie which is a very old tune.
Have to admit, I prefer other versions!!!! But here is Tim Rose's anyway for posterity... actually I heard it again, it's bloody awful, never mind, I still love ya Tim...

Oh Lenneth, I have only just caught up with your sounds, not too bad at all actually!
Did you now this year will see the 50th anniversary of the break up of the Beatles? They are still playing beat combination to this day....
Another anniversary, today, in 1982 is the last live concert of Abba in Stockholm. This is my offering, it was their last and most sophisticated hit that they mimed too on the show it was their release, such a shame they could have produced such again. I loved Abba back in the day. I still like them.
Voulez Vous was a favourite of mine, I thought I was quite hip liking that sound. I heard an awful rendition based most terribly constant, on that last night!!!
Anyway as for the Beatles, back in those days I was in single figures age wise and I much, much, much, preferred the Monkees, I used to watch their TV show on Saturday morning TV. This is my favourite of the Monkees!

Hi Elle!!!
Melanie Safka is a personal favourite of mine since I was not even a teenager. I had all her albums and remember this song. It is strange, because at the time Do You Believe was not a top favourite, but listening to it now, it is simply lovely.

P.S. If you hit the Youtube icon above and paste the link there it comes up better... xx
And edit.... this was and is a favourite!

A post to all posts
It covers a few of late.
Firstly, I am fed up with the aggression of a certain administrations. I am fed up with the unyielding hatred by others towards peaceful countries, just trying to keep peace. I am fed up with all of the warmongers, of all races, creeds and... religion, the most culpable factor of all wars
Secondly, way different, I think that you Elle, are a Melanie type woman, you are quite like her. You are no Greek mountain! My advice, give up sugar, all sugars.... I can tell when someone is eating too much sugar. It does not help, have a savoury palate, better still fruit and vegetable. I wage that I am right and truly hope that I am not patronising, I just like o help....
Thirdly, the beautiful melody of this song..... Melanie gives her kinda Native chant on Vietnam for a short time at the start, quite rightly, she is half native....
Going to add the original before beddybyes:

Elle, you do have her features. If you look at many of her pictures you will see that there is a little of you there.
Anyway, I do love her song. She was a true great, up there with Dylan, but being female does not quite get the same recognition. She wrote some wonderful songs and her renditions of others were always very good. My favourite, Ruby Tuesday was a standard of not only super Bob, not only the lovely Marianne, but sweet Melanie and here is her version.... the best one....
This is becoming the Melanie fanzine page, I know.... but we love you Melanie!!!!

Oh well, as I seem to be talking to myself the last few days...
Another brilliant song form Melanie!!! she puts the great meat eating debate quite succinctly, nearly fifty years ago!!!!

Re: A thread about music, not specific music, just about music
Hi Lenneth,
Naturally I should like the Bergersen, but I found the Epic Soul Factory sound much more moving. Neither sounds are my usual my cup of tea, I have to admit, but I did listen to the Epic Soul Factory to the end and would wish to listen to that again.... I admit to having never heard of them before you put them on last time, though.
